Learning Update
We are having a wonderful start to the school year in room 16!
Here is what we are busy learning this week....
Writing- We are learning how to get ideas to write great stories. Our first unit is narrative writing in which we will be writing about ourselves. Your child will be starting a small moment notebook in which they can jot down ideas at any time about what's happening in their life.
Reading-We are learning about how to find "just right" books. Ask your child how they pick out books. Throughout this week, we are learning how and when to abandon books and real and fake readers. We will end the week learning about book genres.
Word Study-Look for your child's first spelling list the full week after Labor Day. We have taken a test to see what group we need to be best placed in to help us learn best. We have been learning and practicing how to sort words based on how they look and sound.
Math- We are learning about math stations! We are learning how to play math games and use technology in the right way to make sure everyone is learning. We are working on addition and subtraction strategies.
Science- Today, we took a picture walk in our textbooks and are excited about all the exciting things we are going to learn this year. Our first chapter, we will be learning about what Science is and how we will be scientists this year in second grade!

~Today was a C day which is Library. Here is the rest of the week....

~Owl bags can be sent in as the students complete them. We have already had fun learning about Dillon and Madeline!
~Feel free to send a water bottle for your child on these hot days.
~Tomorrow, I will be sending home their homework folders. Please sign this daily and return with your child. I know they will be super responsible by reading and practicing their math facts nightly. Word Study practice will begin in a couple of weeks.

Writing webs
We are creating writing idea webs to help us when our brain can't give us enough ideas. We will keep them in our yellow writing folders all year long to help us.
